Peacemaking Association

– non-profit organization  –

Purpose

This non-profit organisation,

Peacemaking Association,

aims to make a contribution to promoting peace worldwide.

New approaches to peacemaking are to be researched, made usable for practical application and shared with the public. Building on the traditions of indigenous populations, the aim is to promote the peaceful resolution of conflicts by the conflicting parties themselves with the aim of taking responsibility and making amends.

The specific purpose of the non-profit association is to promote peace in as many ways as possible and to prevent the commission of criminal offenses.

These goals are to be achieved through:

* Mediation in Civil and Criminal Matters before, during and after court proceedings (Restorative Justice/Victim-Offender Mediation (VOM));

*International Peace Mediations (mediating of inter- and intra-State conflicts at all stages: before a conflict may turn into an armed conflict, after the outbreak of violence, as well as during the drafting or implementation of a peace agreement);

* providing support for the establishment and organization of Truth Commissions inspired by the South African Truth & Reconciliation Commission (TRC) with a focus on a human rights violations committee and an amnesty committee;

* the introduction of Drug Treatment Courts into national justice systems to prevent criminal offenses, especially drug-related crimes, and to provide support in getting over drug addictions;

* the revitalisation and introduction of alternative/indigenous Conflict Resolution Models practiced since time immemorial by indigenous populations worldwide.

The following should also be promoted by

* Trainings in restorative justice and in peacemaking-circles for judges, prosecutors, lawyers,  police officers and prison staff;

* Gerneral informatory events on Restorative Justice and Peacemaking Circles;

* Scientific Conferences on Restorative Justice worldwide;

* Education about Restorative Justice (such as public events, trainings writing books (including cost for printing) and scientific articles and other research work as well as the promotion of film projects and

* Practical and scientific projects relating to the protection of persons at risk of addiction (e.g. by promoting the introduction and/or maintenance of Drug Treament Courts and promoting projects for the protection of persons who are vulnerable to addiction in the context of drug use or gambling).

* Projects with students to train them in alternative ways of dealing with conflicts and prepare them for everyday working life (e.g. through professional coaching)

* Translations of books on the subject of Restorative Justice and Prevention of Crimes

as well as

* Prison projects such as

* Informative events on Restorative Justice /Victim-Offender-Mediation (VOM) in prisons worldwide;

* Re-entry courses and training in this area;

* Right brain training and Restorative Justice Practices and dealing with Gang members

* Development of alternative forms of prisons modeling the Seehaus free prison model in Leonberg (Germany)

and finally, the development of proposals for legislative changes is to be promoted

* in particular on victim protection

* promoting Restorative Justice and

*Preventing criminal offences

Founder

Dr. Clivia von Dewitz

Judge since 2007, mediator since 2008 and coach since 2012.

Doctorate in 2005 at the Humboldt University of Berlin;  Habilitation (Post-Doctoral Lecturing Qualification) at the University of Bremen in 2024.

An internship at the South African Truth and Reconciliation Commission in East London in 1997 fundamentally changed my understanding of the role of law and justice. I realized that peaceful coexistence after the commission of crimes is less about punishment and more about promoting accountability, reparation and mutualm, respectful listening.

Since then, I have the vision of participating in the establishment of Truth Commissions based on the South African model after unjust regimes, acts of war or colonisation.

Peace is understood as a never-ending process that demands a great deal of awareness and empathy,

first and foremost with ourselves. It starts with us:

Whoever wants to bring peace must have found peace within themselves.

Beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing there is a field. I´ll meet you there.
